MSU-Manufactured Carbide End Mills

Corner Rounding End Mills

MSU manufactures the four-flute IRR carbide corner rounding end mill family for machining a rounded profile on an external workpiece edge. The current range contains 31 exact catalog codes with radius labels from R0.5 to R8.

Compare the configurations by rounding radius, pilot or neck clearance, diameter, reach and workpiece material. Send the exact IRR code when known, or provide the edge drawing and complete tool-clearance requirement for review.

Send the edge profile, rounding radius, clearance dimensions, material and quantity for selection review or quotation.

Explore Corner Rounding End Mills

The IRR range consists of four-flute solid carbide corner rounding cutters for machining a radius on an external workpiece edge.

One family for external-edge rounding

A corner rounding tool forms a radius on the edge of the workpiece. A Corner Radius End Mill has a radius at the tool’s own cutting corner and is a different tool geometry.

The catalog provides 31 exact IRR codes across R0.5–R8 labels. The radius label helps locate a configuration, but the part drawing still needs the rounding radius, adjacent faces, pilot or neck clearance, tool approach and available reach.

Compare IRR Configurations

Compare Series and Configurations

The IRR range contains one family. Compare the rounding radius and complete dimensions to select a configuration.

MSU IRR corner rounding end mill configurations compared by rounding radius, pilot or neck, diameter, reach and material with the information to provide and its review purpose.
Comparison input What to provide Review purpose
Rounding radius Finished workpiece radius and tolerance Matches the required edge profile to the applicable IRR radius entry
Pilot or neck Pilot or neck diameter, length and required clearance Checks access beside the workpiece edge and adjacent surfaces
Diameter Tool and cutting-envelope diameter in the selected catalog entry Checks the available tool envelope against the part and setup
Reach Distance from reference face or holder to rounded edge Checks access without selecting a configuration from radius alone
Material Workpiece material, grade and hardness when known Provides the material boundary for technical review

Also confirm shank, overall length, workholding, tool approach, machine, holder, coolant method and quantity. MSU reviews the IRR code together with the complete drawing and setup before confirming the applicable configuration.

Choose Corner Rounding End Mills for Your Application

Start with the workpiece edge rather than the radius code alone. Provide the following information together:

  • Part drawing with the external edge, rounding radius, tolerance and units.
  • Adjacent-face geometry and whether the tool approaches from one side or both sides.
  • Required pilot or neck clearance, cutting diameter, reach, shank and overall length.
  • Workpiece material, grade, hardness and surface condition when known.
  • Operation, stock condition and whether the edge is completed in one path or a planned sequence.
  • Machine, spindle interface, holder, overhang, workholding and coolant method.
  • Quantity, destination country and target date.

The published code set begins at IRR-R0.5 and continues through the catalog’s quarter-step radius labels to IRR-R8. The code range describes catalog entries; availability is confirmed during quotation.

For quotation, confirm the complete catalog entry and part drawing. The radius code must be reviewed together with the pilot or neck, tool diameter, reach, shank and clearance around adjacent faces.

Manufacturing and Quality Control

Corner Rounding End Mills are an MSU-manufactured product line. The current end-mill supplement establishes the IRR family, four-flute description, 31 exact codes and R0.5–R8 catalog labels in this range.

The MSU Factory has Walter HELITRONIC MICRO equipment. MSU’s Quality Control facilities include a ZOLLER G3 measurement system. For an order, the selected radius and other acceptance requirements are confirmed against the catalog configuration, quotation, order or approved drawing.

Product-specific geometry, runout, tolerance, surface-finish requirements and inspection items are confirmed for the selected configuration and order conditions.
