Solid Carbide Drills

MSU manufactures solid carbide drills in MGP and MGPP external-coolant series and the MGPC internal-coolant series. The current catalog organizes these carbide drills into 3D, 5D and 8D depth-ratio groups.

Compare the selected carbide twist drill entry by cutting diameter, depth-ratio group, flute length, overall length, shank diameter and coolant construction. Submit the hole, workpiece, machine, holder and coolant conditions for selection review or quotation.

Send the required hole diameter and depth, coolant method, setup, quantity and target date for drill review.

Explore Solid Carbide Drills

The current range follows three series routes. Start with the required coolant construction, then compare the available depth-ratio groups and row-level dimensions.

3D and 5D groups

Confirm cutting diameter, flute length, overall length and shank diameter from the selected catalog entry.

MGPP

External coolant

3D and 5D groups

Confirm cutting diameter, flute length, overall length and shank diameter from the selected catalog entry.

3D, 5D and 8D groups

Confirm cutting diameter, flute length, overall length, shank diameter and internal-coolant construction from the selected catalog entry.

Use Micro Drills for the 326, 326L, 426 and 426L micro-drill series. Use Solid Carbide Deep Hole Drills for the separate 10D, 15D, 20D, 25D and 30D groups. Replaceable Head Drills and Solid Carbide Reamers have separate construction and selection routes. Indexable drill bodies and SPMG or WCMX Shallow Hole Drilling Inserts are separate product types.

Continue from the three series routes to compare depth-ratio and coolant configurations.

Compare Solid Carbide Drill Series

Compare Series and Configurations

Select the product route from the complete hole and machine setup rather than from a 3D, 5D or 8D label alone.

Published diameter ranges

MGP 3D catalog entries cover cutting diameters from 0.5 to 20.0 mm. MGP 5D begins at 1.0 mm and extends to 20.0 mm. MGPC 3D, 5D and 8D groups cover 3.0 to 20.0 mm. MGPP dimensions require confirmation from the selected catalog entry.

Depth and coolant boundary

Depth-ratio labels organize the catalog groups. Required drilled depth, flute length, overall reach, holder clearance and chip-evacuation conditions must still be checked. Internal coolant is a construction field and does not guarantee chip evacuation, hole quality or tool life.

Use the series comparison to prepare the exact hole, coolant, holder and process inputs.

Choose Solid Carbide Drills for Your Application

Provide the complete hole, workpiece, machine and coolant conditions so MSU can review the applicable series and catalog entry.

Temporary visual for solid carbide drill application selection
  • Required hole diameter, depth, depth-to-diameter ratio and through- or blind-hole condition.
  • Entry surface, exit condition, cross-holes, interruptions or other feature details.
  • Hole tolerance, surface requirement and inspection method when specified.
  • Workpiece material, grade, hardness and stock condition when known.
  • Machine type, spindle interface, holder, overhang, runout and rigidity information.
  • External or internal coolant delivery, pressure and filtration when known.
  • Current drill code, cutting speed, feed, cycle and observed result or issue when applicable.
  • Quantity, destination country, target date and required inspection documentation.

Depth route

Choose the depth-ratio group only after comparing the required cutting depth with the row-level flute length and overall length. For a current 10D–30D requirement, continue to Solid Carbide Deep Hole Drills.

Custom requirement

For a step drill or another geometry outside the current catalog entries, submit the part and tool drawings through Custom Cutting Tools for feasibility review.

Send the complete hole and setup information for series and catalog-entry review.

Manufacturing and Quality Control

Solid Carbide Drills are within the MSU-manufactured Holemaking Tools range. The current catalog lists the MGP, MGPP and MGPC series, coolant construction and depth-ratio groups in this range.

Temporary visual for solid carbide drill manufacturing and quality

See MSU Factory for manufacturing facilities and Quality Control for inspection and measurement processes.

For an order, the selected product code or approved drawing, critical dimensions, inspection requirements and acceptance basis are confirmed through the quotation and order records. Catalog dimensional tolerances describe tool features and do not guarantee a drilled-hole result. Product-specific hole accuracy, finish, tool life, workpiece suitability and productivity requirements must be reviewed with the applicable conditions and records.

Review the inspection environment and how drill specifications and acceptance requirements are confirmed for an order.
