Use Micro Drills for small-diameter drilling requirements. Compare the selected series by cutting diameter, flute length, overall length, shank and point form.
Use Solid Carbide Drills for the available 3D, 5D and 8D groups. Confirm the cutting diameter, depth ratio, flute length, overall length, shank and coolant method.
Use Solid Carbide Deep Hole Drills for the available 10D, 15D, 20D, 25D and 30D groups. Confirm the diameter, required depth, coolant delivery, machine and setup conditions.
Use Replaceable Head Drills when the requirement calls for a replaceable drill head and holder system. Confirm the complete head, holder and interface references together.
Use Solid Carbide Reamers for reaming requirements. Confirm the finished-hole size, tolerance, stock allowance, flute configuration, coolant method and holder conditions.
Compare the five product types by construction, depth, coolant method and required hole condition.
Compare Holemaking Tool TypesUse the hole requirement first, then compare tool construction, depth ratio, coolant delivery and the dimensions available for each product type.
Depth-ratio labels and catalog dimensions help identify a suitable product type. They do not guarantee hole tolerance, surface finish, tool life, cutting parameters, machine compatibility or current stock.
| Product type | Best starting point | Confirm before selection |
|---|---|---|
| Micro Drills | Small-diameter drilling | Diameter, flute length, overall length, shank, point form, workpiece and machine conditions |
| Solid Carbide Drills | Standard-depth solid-carbide drilling | 3D, 5D or 8D group, diameter, dimensions and external or internal coolant |
| Solid Carbide Deep Hole Drills | Hole depths within the available 10D–30D groups | Diameter, depth ratio, total reach, coolant delivery, holder, runout and setup conditions |
| Replaceable Head Drills | A replaceable drill head and holder system | Head reference, holder reference, interface, diameter, length and coolant details |
| Solid Carbide Reamers | Finishing an existing hole | Finished-hole size, tolerance, allowance, flute configuration, coolant and holder conditions |
Review the hole, tool and process information MSU needs for product selection.
Review Application InputsPrepare the complete hole geometry, workpiece and setup information before requesting product selection support.
Tool selection depends on the complete hole geometry and setup. A diameter or depth-ratio label alone is not enough to confirm tolerance, surface finish, cutting conditions or tool life.
For a new drill geometry or a requirement outside the current range, use Custom Cutting Tools to submit the part and tool drawings for feasibility review. Review does not guarantee that every requested geometry, material, tolerance or coating can be manufactured.
Send the complete hole and setup requirements so the appropriate product type can be reviewed.

View Holemaking CatalogsReview MSU manufacturing facilities, inspection processes and the product information used to confirm a holemaking-tool requirement.
Holemaking Tools are manufactured by MSU. The available range covers five drilling and reaming product types with model-specific dimensions and application requirements.
See the MSU Factory page for manufacturing facilities and Quality Control for inspection processes. Product dimensions, inspection requirements and acceptance conditions are confirmed using the selected model, order details or approved custom drawing.
Factory photos and equipment information describe MSU’s manufacturing and inspection environment. Hole tolerance, surface finish, tool life and machining results depend on the selected product, workpiece and operating conditions.
