Selection principle
Review the complete access envelope
The neck and cutter head must be reviewed together with the entry slot and machine clearance. Do not select a 4TE configuration from finished slot width alone.
MSU-Manufactured Carbide End Mills
MSU manufactures the 4TE solid carbide T-slot end mill family in 36 confirmed catalog configurations. These four-flute tools are selected using the complete dimensions and clearance requirements of the T-shaped undercut.
Compare the configurations by cutter diameter, neck diameter, slot width, reach and shank. Send the exact 4TE code when known, or provide the part drawing, entry-slot condition and complete tool-clearance envelope.
Send the T-slot drawing, cutter and neck dimensions, entry condition and quantity for review or quotation.
Request a T-Slot End Mill ReviewThe MSU 4TE family consists of four-flute, solid carbide T-slot end mills. The current supplement contains 36 exact catalog codes.
A T-slot operation requires an entry path that allows the cutter head and neck to reach the undercut. The part drawing should show the finished feature, access slot and surrounding clearance. The MSU range covered here is limited to solid carbide 4TE tools; HSS, indexable and Woodruff keyseat cutters are separate product types.
Use Square End Mills to review the separate flat-end tool category when an entry or pre-slot operation is also required. Use Carbide End Mills to compare the complete MSU end-mill range.

Review the 4TE family and the dimensional inputs used to distinguish its configurations.
Compare 4TE ConfigurationsThe 4TE range contains one family. Compare cutter diameter, neck diameter, slot width, reach and shank to select a configuration.
| Comparison input | What to provide | Review purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Cutter diameter | Required cutter-head diameter and available radial clearance | Matches the cutter envelope to the part drawing |
| Neck diameter | Required neck clearance and minimum supported neck condition | Checks access through the entry slot and clearance inside the feature |
| Slot width | Finished drawing dimension and tolerance | Identifies the required cutting-width condition without inferring it from another field |
| Reach | Distance from the reference face to the cutting location | Checks whether the tool can access the undercut within the setup envelope |
| Shank | Shank diameter and holder requirement | Checks the tool-to-holder interface requested for review |
Also confirm flute length, overall length, workpiece material, operation, machine, holder, coolant and quantity. MSU checks the catalog dimensions together with the finished slot drawing before confirming a configuration.
Continue to the drawing, entry path and clearance information needed for selection.
Review T-Slot Application InputsStart with the finished feature drawing and planned access path. Use the End Mill Selection Guide to review geometry, workpiece material and setup. Provide the following information together:

Outside the catalog range
If the required geometry, reach, shank or clearance condition is outside the current catalog range, submit the drawing for feasibility review.
Send the part drawing and access envelope so the 4TE configuration can be checked against the application.

The MSU Factory has Walter HELITRONIC MICRO equipment. MSU’s Quality Control facilities include a ZOLLER G3 measurement system. For an order, the selected cutter diameter, neck, reach and other acceptance requirements are confirmed against the catalog configuration, quotation, order or approved drawing.
Product-specific geometry, runout, tolerance, surface-finish requirements and inspection items are confirmed for the selected configuration and order conditions.
Review the documented quality workflow and how order-specific T-slot dimensions are confirmed.
Review Quality ControlSend the 4TE code when known. Include the cutter diameter, neck diameter, slot width, reach, flute length, shank, overall length, drawing and entry-slot condition. Also include the workpiece and hardness, operation, machine, holder, coolant, quantity, destination and target date.
MOQ is normally 5–10 pieces, with the final quantity confirmed by product and quotation.
