MSU-Manufactured Carbide End Mills

Tapered Ball Nose End Mills

MSU manufactures the NON-2Q carbide tapered ball nose end mill family. The current range contains 28 exact catalog codes for configurations that combine a ball-nose cutting end with a tapered body profile.

Compare the configurations by taper angle, ball radius, diameter, reach and cutting length. Send the exact NON-2Q code when known, or provide the part profile, draft or sidewall condition and complete tool envelope for review.

Send the part profile, taper angle, ball radius, reach and material for selection review or quotation.

Compare NON-2Q Configurations

Compare Series and Configurations

The NON-2Q range contains one family. Compare taper angle, ball radius and the complete dimensions to select a configuration.

MSU NON-2Q tapered ball nose end mill configurations compared by taper angle, ball radius, diameter, reach and cutting length with the information to provide and its review purpose.
Comparison input What to provide Review purpose
Taper angle Drawing angle, reference convention and tolerance Matches the tapered body to the part profile without decoding the model string
Ball radius Required spherical cutting-end radius Matches the cutting end to the surface or feature geometry
Diameter Cutting or body diameter identified by the drawing and catalog entry Checks the tool envelope and separates otherwise similar configurations
Reach Required access distance from the reference face or holder Checks access to the profiled feature within the setup envelope
Cutting length Required cutting engagement along the ball and tapered profile Checks the applicable catalog configuration

Also confirm shank, overall length, workpiece material and hardness, operation, toolpath, machine, holder, overhang, coolant and quantity. MSU reviews the NON-2Q code together with the complete profile and setup before confirming the applicable configuration.

Use the End Mill Selection Guide for the shared selection framework. Do not substitute a standard ball nose tool without checking tapered-body clearance. If the required taper angle, ball radius, reach, body profile or tolerance is outside the current NON-2Q range, submit the drawing through Custom Cutting Tools for feasibility review.

Manufacturing and Quality Control

Tapered Ball Nose End Mills are an MSU-manufactured product line. The current end-mill supplement establishes the NON-2Q taper-ball family and 28 exact catalog codes in this range.

The MSU Factory has Walter HELITRONIC MICRO equipment. MSU’s Quality Control facilities include a ZOLLER G3 measurement system. For an order, the selected taper, ball radius and other acceptance requirements are confirmed against the catalog configuration, quotation, order or approved drawing.

Product-specific taper, radius, geometry, runout, tolerance, surface-finish requirements and inspection items are confirmed for the selected configuration and order conditions.

Tapered Ball Nose End Mill Selection Questions

The range consists of the MSU NON-2Q family, which combines a ball-nose cutting end with a tapered body profile.

No. The current range covers the taper-ball family and does not establish a complete flat-end or square-end tapered portfolio.

Both use a ball-nose cutting end, but the NON-2Q family also has a tapered body. The body angle and clearance must be checked against the part profile.

Send the taper angle and convention, ball radius, diameter, cutting length, reach, shank and overall-length limits, together with the part profile.

No. They are documented catalog configurations. Availability and commercial terms are confirmed in the quotation.

Yes. Submit the profile, taper and radius tolerances, material, setup and quantity for feasibility review.

Completion of the whole order is guaranteed within 25–30 days from order placement.
