Explore Micro End Mills

Micro end mills are solid carbide milling tools for micro-scale square-end, ball-nose and corner-radius requirements.

The current catalog establishes four series and 29 product families. The catalog includes square-end, ball-nose and corner-radius micro geometries, within the micro tool range. Standard-diameter tools remain on Square End Mills, Ball Nose End Mills and Corner Radius End Mills. Micro drills are a different tool category and are not included here.

Compare Micro End Mill Series

Compare Series and Configurations

Begin with the required end geometry and feature size, then verify the complete configuration. A matching family name alone is not enough to confirm a tool because neck, reach and other dimensional rows may differ within the same family.

Micro end mill comparison inputs: end geometry, micro diameter, neck, reach, workpiece material and coating, with what to provide and how each input is used.
Comparison input What to provide How it is used
End geometry Square end, ball nose, corner radius or drawing-defined profile Narrows the relevant family group without decoding an unverified suffix
Micro diameter Required cutting diameter and tolerance on the part feature Used to match the applicable dimensional row in the current catalog
Neck Required neck diameter and neck length, when clearance depends on them Checks body clearance and distinguishes otherwise similar configurations
Reach Required reach from the holder or reference face Checks access to the feature and the complete tool-length requirement
Workpiece material Material, grade and hardness when known Provides the application boundary for technical review
Coating Required coating or operating condition, if already specified Checked against the exact catalog row; no coating is inferred from the series name

Include machine runout, holder condition, tool overhang, spindle capability, coolant method and workholding so MSU can review the tool configuration with the complete machining setup.

Continue to the feature, material and machine information needed for a complete review.

Review Micro Milling Inputs

Choose Micro End Mills for Your Application

Provide the smallest feature dimensions together with the complete setup. The tool review should not be based on diameter alone. Include the following inputs together:

  • Part drawing or a clear feature sketch with units and tolerances.
  • Required end geometry and cutting diameter.
  • Neck diameter, neck length, flute length, reach, shank and overall-length limits when applicable.
  • Workpiece material, grade, hardness and surface condition when known.
  • Operation, toolpath, axial and radial engagement, and whether the pass is roughing, semi-finishing or finishing.
  • Machine, spindle, holder, measured runout when available, tool overhang and workholding condition.
  • Coolant or air method, quantity, destination country and target date.

  • End Mill Selection Guide

Use the shared selection framework before requesting a specific micro configuration.

  • Custom Cutting Tools

If the required micro diameter, reach, neck, profile or tolerance cannot be confirmed in the current catalog, submit the drawing for feasibility review.

Selection checkpoint

Confirm the tool and setup as one system.

MSU reviews diameter, tolerance, coating, reach and material together with the workpiece and setup conditions before confirming the product route.

Micro diameter

Required cutting diameter and tolerance on the part feature.

Neck

Neck diameter and neck length when clearance depends on them.

Reach

Required reach from the holder or reference face.

Runout

Measured machine runout when available.

Holder

Holder type, condition and tool overhang.

Workholding

Workholding condition and setup stability.

Send the drawing, feature dimensions and complete machining setup together for review.

Manufacturing and Quality Control

Micro End Mills are an MSU-manufactured product line. The published micro end mill catalog establishes the four series and 29 product families in this range.

The MSU Factory has Walter HELITRONIC MICRO equipment. MSU’s Quality Control facilities include a ZOLLER G3 measurement system. For an order, the selected diameter, geometry, reach and other acceptance requirements are confirmed against the catalog row, quotation, order or approved drawing.

Product-specific runout, tolerance, surface-finish requirements and inspection items are confirmed for the selected model, order conditions or approved drawing.

Micro End Mill Selection Questions

It covers the NNC, NNH, NNCH and NNX series in the MSU micro end mill catalog. The current range contains 29 product families across micro-scale square-end, ball-nose and corner-radius requirements.

No. Micro end mills are milling tools. Micro drills are separate holemaking tools.

No. A family code helps locate the relevant catalog group, but the complete model code and dimensional row must be checked. The suffix is not used as an independent geometry or size rule.

Send the cutting diameter, end geometry, flute length, neck diameter and length, reach, shank and overall length required by the feature and setup. A drawing is preferred when several dimensions interact.

MSU checks the complete model code and dimensional row in the current catalog before selection or quotation. Send a drawing when diameter, neck, reach and length requirements interact.

Yes. Submit the drawing, tolerance, material, operation, setup and quantity for feasibility review. MSU confirms manufacturability, tolerance, coating and reach for the submitted project conditions.

Completion of the whole order is guaranteed within 25–30 days from order placement.
