Micro Drills

MSU manufactures solid carbide micro drills in the current 326, 326L, 426 and 426L series. Catalog cutting diameters begin at 0.03 mm for 326 and 426 and at 0.04 mm for the extra-long-flute 326L and 426L series.

Compare the selected catalog entry by cutting diameter, flute length, overall length, 3.0 mm shank, point configuration and catalog coating marking. Submit the hole, workpiece, machine, holder and coolant conditions for review before selection or quotation.

Send the required micro-hole diameter and depth, workpiece, setup, quantity and target date for review.

These solid carbide micro drills are intended for industrial metalworking. PCB, dental, jewelry and hobby drills are separate product types. Micro End Mills are milling tools. Use Solid Carbide Drills for the standard 3D, 5D and 8D drill groups and Solid Carbide Deep Hole Drills for the 10D–30D groups.

Continue from the four series to compare diameter, length, point and catalog configuration fields.

Compare Series and Configurations

Use the complete selected catalog entry rather than the series name alone. The diameter tolerance shown below is a product-dimension field and does not establish the drilled-hole tolerance.

326L 0.04–3.0 mm 0 / −0.005 mm Extra-long flute, 120° point, 3.0 mm shank, row-specific flute and overall lengths

Flute length and overall length vary by the selected cutting diameter and catalog entry. Also compare hole depth, required reach, holder and runout, coolant delivery, chip evacuation conditions and machine capability. An extra-long flute is a geometry choice, not a universal recommendation for deeper holes or a guarantee of drilling stability.

Use the catalog comparison to prepare the hole, setup and process inputs needed for selection review.

Choose Micro Drills for Your Application

Provide the complete micro-hole, workpiece and setup information so MSU can review the applicable catalog entry or a custom requirement.

  • Required hole diameter, tolerance, depth and whether the hole is through or blind.
  • Entry surface, exit condition, cross-hole or interrupted features when present.
  • Workpiece material, grade, hardness and stock condition when known.
  • Machine type, spindle-speed range, spindle interface and available rigidity.
  • Holder or collet, grip length, overhang and measured runout when available.
  • Coolant method, pressure and filtration, plus the planned chip-evacuation approach.
  • Current tool code, feed, speed, pecking or other cycle details and the observed issue when replacing a tool.
  • Quantity, destination country, target date and any required inspection document.

Selection and custom geometry

The selected cutting diameter must be paired with its row-specific flute length and overall length. A required hole tolerance or surface condition must be reviewed as an application and inspection requirement; it cannot be inferred from the drill-diameter tolerance.

For a step drill or another geometry outside the current catalog entries, submit the part and tool drawings through Custom Cutting Tools for feasibility review.

Send the selected catalog entry or required micro-hole data with the complete setup for review.

Manufacturing and Quality Control

Micro Drills are within the MSU-manufactured Holemaking Tools range. The current Micro Drill catalog lists the four series and their product specification fields.

See MSU Factory for manufacturing facilities and Quality Control for inspection and measurement processes.

For an order, the selected product code or approved drawing, critical tool dimensions and inspection requirements are confirmed in the quotation and order records. The catalog diameter tolerance is a product specification field and does not establish an achievable hole tolerance. Product-specific process capability, tool life, surface result and output requirements must be reviewed with the applicable conditions and records.

Micro Drill Selection Questions

The range includes 326, 326L, 426 and 426L solid carbide micro drills.

The 326 and 426 series cover 0.03–3.0 mm. The 326L and 426L extra-long-flute series cover 0.04–3.0 mm.

No. It is a product-dimension field. The required hole tolerance depends on the complete application and must be stated for review.

The current catalog identifies 326L and 426L as extra-long-flute series. The required flute length and overall length must be confirmed from the selected catalog entry.

No. This range is intended for industrial metalworking micro-hole requirements. PCB, dental, jewelry and hobby drills are separate product types.

Do not transfer a parameter without checking the selected diameter, workpiece, machine, holder, coolant delivery and hole conditions.

Completion of the whole order is guaranteed within 25–30 days from order placement.
